Street Dance Course FAQs

I am a complete beginner and I have never Street Danced before – is this course suitable for me?

No, this is a teacher training course and as such there is a level of expectation that your dance ability is at a suitable standard to demonstrate movements to beginners.

I have no formal qualifications – can I still apply for the course? 

Yes. We will judge your ability by an interview and references.

25 (maximum)

What kind of work will I be able to do after the course?

Workshops in schools and masterclasses.

What kind of fees can I expect as a Street Dance Teacher?

Fees vary, but after you are qualified you should be commanding fees from a minimum of £30 per hour.  After the Marketing talk, you should be aiming to fill a class and could potentially earn £240 per hour.

Can I do anything to make my application stand out from the rest?

Yes - your attitude is key. We want to work with students who are dedicated, hardworking, pragmatic, focused and willing to throw themselves into it. You have a much greater chance of industry success if you have the right attitude.

If you are in any way half-hearted about becoming an excellent Street Dance instructor, this is not the course for you. We are only interested in working with students who are absolutely 100% dedicated to becoming teachers of the highest calibre. The students who will benefit most from the course are not necessarily the ones who start off with the ‘best’ dancing or teaching ability, but the ones with the right attitude.

Is there a formal qualification on completion of this intensive course eg. letters you can use after your name?

Yes,  if you pass your exam you will have gained an ADPA (Associate Diploma in Performing Arts) Level 4. The qualification accreditation number is 600/0754/0. Urban Strides Ltd are the Delivery Centre for the accrediting body, Rockschool Ltd. 

How long is the programme?

The course is a 10-day intensive programme.

What do I need to bring along to the programme?

  • A pen 
  • A writing pad 
  • Change of clothes 
  • Water (at least a bottle a day) 
  • Lunch 
  • Towel 

How does the deposit work?

The deposit for the programme guarantees you a space and is non-refundable. 

When do I need to pay for the programme in full? 

If you are paying in instalments that’s fine, but the full balance should be received no later than 4 weeks before the start of the course.
